2025: A Year of growth and momentum for the Norwegian Datacenter Industry

A growing community

2025 has been a defining year for the Norwegian Datacenter Industry. It has been a year marked by strong momentum, increased investments and a growing recognition of data centers as critical digital infrastructure for Norway and the Nordic region.

Throughout the year, NDI has grown both in activity and with more than 50 new memberships. We are proud to represent an industry that continues to strengthen through collaboration, shared knowledge and collective efforts.

One of the most important developments in 2025 has been the continued growth and engagement of NDI’s members. Both long-standing members and new companies joining the organisation have contributed actively to discussions, events and policy dialogue. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all our members and a warm welcome to those who joined us during 2025 and became a part of the organizations 115 members.

New managing director

In August 2025, Reynir Jóhannesson assumed the role of Managing Director of Norwegian Data Center Industry. He joined the organisation at a time when the strategic importance of data centers is increasing rapidly, and when close cooperation between industry and authorities is more important than ever.

Together with our members, NDI has further strengthened its engagement with policymakers, public authorities and international partners, contributing to a more informed, balanced and constructive dialogue on how Norway can develop a competitive, secure and sustainable data center industry.

Nordic data center week 2025

Nordic Data Center Week 2025 served as an important meeting place for industry, policymakers and stakeholders from across the region. During the week the organisation and our members hosted members meeting, supplier conference, talent day as well as webinars and social gatherings.

The week focused on:

  • sustainable growth and responsible energy use,

  • the role of data centers in enabling AI, cloud services and digital innovation,

  • competence development, jobs and local value creation,

  • growing the Norwegian supplier industry,

  • and how the Nordic region can strengthen its position in global digital infrastructure.

The strong engagement throughout the week reflected not only the relevance of the industry, but also the value of collaboration across companies, countries and sectors.

Nordic AI Forum 2025

A key highlight of the year was the Nordic AI Forum in Oslo, a fully booked conference focusing on infrastructure for artificial intelligence, combined with the annual Nordic board meeting.

The forum brought together participants from across Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, as well as international guests, to discuss digitalisation, AI and the critical role of data center infrastructure. The programme featured contributions from Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance Karianne Tung alongside industry leaders and experts.

A particularly impactful contribution came from Natalia Mishyna from Ukraine, who shared powerful insights in her presentation “Wartime Innovation: Lessons Learned from Ukraine to Build a Resilient Digital Infrastructure.” Her message resonated strongly with the audience and underlined the importance of resilience, preparedness and cooperation.

A Christmas Greeting and looking ahead to 2026!

As we enter 2026, the Norwegian data center industry stands on strong foundations:

  • demand for data, AI and computing capacity continues to grow,

  • Norway and the Nordic region remain attractive locations with renewable power, political stability and high competence,

  • and cooperation within the industry is stronger than ever.

With our members at the core, NDI looks forward to continuing the work of strengthening Norway’s position as responsible, competitive and forward-looking data center region.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our members, both established and new, for your engagement, trust and contributions!

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to continued cooperation and new opportunities in 2026.

On behalf of NDI,
Reynir, Bjørn & Ina
